A brief history
Bobard's mother, an illiterate English serving wench in an Essex castle was seduced at a young age by a rather abrupt French merchant who had travelled to England to sell his wares. She understood no French, but heard him say (as she thought), "Fairfoot" so many times that she supposed that to be his name. She therefore christened her son Robert Fairfoot.
She told Bob the story of his birth many times, and made him promise to seek out his father, and his inheritance. At the tender age of 8, therefore, he set off for France, changing his surname on arrival in attempt to de-Anglicise himself. By the time he reached 10, he was disillusioned, and changed his forename to reflect his opinion of the stories his mother had told him.
Note to readers: What Bobard's poor mother actually heard the rather rude Frenchman saying was "Va te faire foutre"
Fending for himself at such an early age gave Bobard a basic, but effective fighting ability. He worked for a while, most effectively, as a bodyguard, and his allowance comes from a grateful, elderly ex-client.
