How we play

This page details how we run this game. Pretty much we will be following the TwilightEnGardeRules.

Games masters

There are two GamesMaster TobyWhitty and IanHayward. They each have gentlemen characters, but they run these as non-player characters (i.e. they are given reasonable logical behaviour in keeping with the period).

Preparations

All players should register on the WassailForum and join the En Garde user group. This will enable the GamesMasters to bulk email requests for order etc. to the players.

Time sequence

Each month has:

Pre-monthly phase You may do as many pre-monthly actions as you desire.
Week 1 One weekly action
Week 2 One weekly action
Week 3 One weekly action
Week 4 One weekly action
Post-monthly phase Used by the GamesMasters for book-keeping etc.

Pre-monthly phase

The GamesMaster will email players using the WassailForum, requesting pre-monthly actions.

There will be a certain time period for their submission (several days, at least).

At the start of the game the GamesMaster will check that everybody has sent in their actions and pester anybody who is late.

More detail needed.

Weekly phase

Choose one action per week from the Weekly Action List.

Post-monthly phase

More detail needed.

Secrecy

Players only know what other players have done if they witness the action, hear about it from another player or NonPlayerCharacter, or find out about it from the press.

Example

Jacque will only know that Pierre was courting a particular mistress if they were seen together in public.

Matrix orders

Once a month a player may make a Matrix Order, i.e. one with three arguments as to why it succeeds. This allows for actions not covered in the list of actions and pre-monthlies.

Example

Hiring people to duff someone up.

Historical accuracy

We start in the year 1620 - TobyWhitty to confirm.

We will be running a historical timeline in the background but allow players to alter history if they become influential enough.
