Character Background – Stephan l’Ubricated

Stephan hails from the l’Ardie l’Urbicated family of the Loire Valley. Of genteel stock for many generations (and with all the documentation to prove this) they positively reek of nobility. Ensconced in l’Ardie Manor they have grown prosperous on the fat of the land, oiling a few palms to grab most of the plum jobs in the region. Stephan is the first to try his hand at climbing the greasy pole in the nation’s capital.Although the family name has insulated Stephan to a certain extent his life has not been without its share of personal tragedy. A bizarre grape press accident in his childhood has given him both an unusually strong constitution and phobia for the colour red in its pure form. Moreover, his suit for the young heiress of the Merquin family was rejected (presumably because the resultant compound name would have made any issue from their union the laughing stock of the department). Rumour has been rampant that young Matilda Merquin may appear herself in Paris for the start of the new social season. Such an eventuality might produce more than a few hairy moments for our hero if not deftly handled.
